Where is the C1 dermatome?

Level 2

There is no C1 dermatome. The C1 root innervates the meninges of the posterior fossa and has no cutaneous branch. Neck stiffness is a test of the C1 root that innervates the meninges.

    "there is no C1 dermatome" and then you say you can test it (that which doesn't exist) by assessing neck stiffness?

      It's correct to say there is no C1 dermatome as "derma" indicates a cutaneous relationship. Perhaps we should speak of a C1 meningotome ;-)
